If black is your favourite colour to wear, nothing else can usually sway you from it. So instead of trying to convince you to change your dark ways, I’m here to help you brighten it up since you insist on wearing black, but summer might not be in your favour for this.
Black can literally drag you down, and more often than not you will get lost in the crowd unless you boldly own it.
There are 2 simple rules I usually follow if I’m forcing myself to wear all black, and I suggest you try them too:
- Accessorize with one or two colours
- Add nude or beige shoes (and if you’re brave enough to add a statement bag to the mix, do it
To skip these steps, justmake smarter choices of black with prints like floral or stripes
Adding colour sounds like a no-brainer but it’s time you see your black clothing as a canvas on which you can express yourself.
Technically this overly dramatic statement jacket boasts as an accessory of its own (and exceeds the 2 colour minimum for sure) but it certainly proved a point. The “I have nothing to wear” mind set was the only reason I grabbed black from my closet and even then, I thought twice about showing face with this daring coat – thankfully it received welcoming attention only.
Note: it doesn’t have to be the expensive accessories and I say that honestly.
Before being a jacket, this was a dress was lying at a pop-up store for a mere R200. Having something tailored to suit you a bit better should always be an option if you want to look your best.
Wearing black shoes with an already all black outfit shouts corporate but also alludes to effortless style – so how do you know where to draw the line. Start by identifying the type of outfit you’re wearing and the message you’re trying to achieve.
Adding a nude or beige shoe lengthens the look of your legs (heaven knows I need it) and transforms you into a slim looking model.
Black can be worn better and black is a staple every woman needs. The only problem I have is all of you hiding behind black and being too afraid to wear everything else you own. If you buy something, make sure you wear it at least once – no excuses.
